Summer Reading Challenge!

I hope that everyone is reading their books for the summer reading challenge! I've just started the challenge myself by starting the my first Peach Award Book, Eleanor and Park, by Rainbow Rowell. I'll keep you posted on what I think about it.

There is nothing quite like reading on the beach with your favorite beverage. Where are you all reading? Have you found a special spot this summer? If so, tweet it to #jagsread for an extra entry in our Summer Reading drawing!

World Read Aloud Day will be celebrated the Wednesday, March 5th. The people from LitWorld share their mission:

Every year on the first Wednesday of March LitWorld's advocacy campaign for the human right of literacy calls worldwide attention to the importance of reading aloud and sharing stories.

Imagine a world where everyone can read...
World Read Aloud Day is about taking action to show the world that the right to read and write belongs to all people. World Read Aloud Day motivates children, teens, and adults worldwide to celebrate the power of words, especially those words that are shared from one person to another, and creates a community of readers advocating for every child’s right to a safe education and access to books and technology.

By raising our voices together on this day we show the world’s children that we support their future: that they have the right to read, to write, and to share their words to change the world.

The World Read Aloud Day "Raising Our Voices" Blogging Challenge begins February 10 and runs through March 9. Take the challenge and reflect with us on the importance of reading-

This weeks post: What is your earliest or fondest memory in which someone read aloud to you?

There's no one time that stands out-my father read to me every night. Snug in our brightly printed pajamas, my brother and I would search through my little bookcase for the right book. I could choose one Little Golden Book, I remember being fond of The Tawny Scrawny Lion, and the story for the day from Richard Scarry's A Story A Day 365 Stories and Rhymes-my brother always chose the same book. I don't remember the name, but my brother always picked a book in the shape of a doctor's kit. Same book-every night.

Anyway, I believe that it's my dad who made me love reading and who has proven just how powerful reading a book to your kids can be. Thanks to my dad, I'm still an avid reader who reads to her children every night.
